FAQs | Frequently Asked Questions

🦙 Meet The Alpacas

We would love to show you around, but because we are a busy working farm dedicated to daily animal care, we operate by appointment only. Please make sure to book your slot in advance so we can give you and the alpacas our full attention!

They absolutely are! Our herd is incredibly well-socialised and loves human company. Just like us, they all have their own unique personalities—some are super bold and love a nose-to-nose greeting, while others are a bit shyer and prefer their personal space. We’ll give you a quick, fun “alpaca etiquette” briefing before we head out into the field so you know exactly how to interact with them!

We kindly ask that you don’t feed them any of your own snacks or human food, as alpacas have very sensitive tummies and specific dietary needs. Don’t worry, though—during our guided walks and meet-and-greets, we’ll hand out the right treats so you can enjoy feeding them safely!

Yma o Hyd! We are incredibly proud to be a Welsh-speaking business. You’ll spot Cymraeg on our signs, and we love encouraging our staff and visitors to have a go. Don’t be shy if you hear us speaking Welsh—we’re always happy to help you learn a few fun phrases!

🏕️ Camping, Amenities & Logistics

We offer a beautifully relaxed, rustic camping experience right in the heart of the scenic Pembrokeshire countryside. Whether you want to pitch a traditional tent , stay in our bell tents or park up for a car camping setup, we’ve got a peaceful space for you to unwind.

We keep things wonderfully rustic, authentic, and eco-friendly to keep our environmental footprint as low as possible!

  • For Campers: We provide a clean compost toilet, a hot shower, and fresh, drinkable water on tap.
  • For Alpaca Experiences: We have a standard, flushing toilet available for visitors.
  • Our Farm Shop: We also have a lovely shop on-site filled with alpaca-themed gifts and camping goodies for you to browse!

We do not have electric hook-ups on our pitches, but we are more than happy to help you keep your devices charged! Just ask a member of the team, and we can plug in and charge your portable battery packs for you.

Sustainability is at the very heart of Sweet Home Alpaca. We’re doing our part to keep our little corner of Pembrokeshire green by planting over 3,000 new trees and using rainwater harvesting systems across the farm.

We love dogs, but because we have free-roaming livestock—along with Flo (our 9-stone farm dog) and Nibbles the cat—we unfortunately cannot allow visiting dogs on-site.

You are more than welcome to bring your own camping stove to cook at your pitch! We just ask that you use it safely and make sure it is raised off the ground to keep our lovely green grass in tip-top shape.

🍕 Food, Drinks & Supplies

We don’t sell food or farm produce on-site, but we are surrounded by amazing local businesses that do! We’d be absolutely delighted to share our favourite local food recommendations with you when you arrive.

Our nearest local pub is just two miles down the road—perfect for a hearty meal and a relaxing drink after a day of farm adventures!

Because we are tucked away in the quiet countryside, we highly recommend stocking up on your essentials in our nearest town, Haverfordwest, before you arrive. There are plenty of supermarkets there so you can grab everything you need to settle straight into your pitch.

📅 Booking & Experiences

It’s super easy! Just send us a direct message through our website or drop us an email at admin@sweethomealpaca.com. Let us know what you’d like to book and your preferred dates, and we’ll get back to you with our latest availability.

Our prices depend on the experience you choose:

  • Alpaca Walks: £30 to walk an alpaca on your own, or £40 for two people to share one alpaca (maximum of 2 people per alpaca). Please note: Children under 14 must walk their alpaca alongside an adult.
  • Alpaca Meet & Greets: £12 per adult and £6 per child.

Our guided walks usually last between 1.5 and 2 hours. This includes plenty of time for photos and some fun historical storytelling along the way! We cover a very gentle, relaxed distance of about 1 mile with lots of opportunities to pause and rest, making it highly manageable for most fitness levels.

Please try to arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled start time so we can set off promptly!

Everyone is welcome! However, the walks are best suited for children aged 6 and older who can comfortably walk the distance. Parents with infants in strollers or carriers are also more than welcome to join the group.

This is Wales, so we’re used to a bit of drizzle! We generally carry on with our walks in typical wet weather. However, if the weather becomes truly unsafe for you or the alpacas, we will reach out to reschedule your experience as soon as possible.

We accept both! However, because we are a busy working farm, we highly prefer pre-booked digital payments to keep things running smoothly.

Yes, absolutely! We love welcoming families and have plenty of open space for kids to enjoy. All we ask is that children are supervised at all times near the alpacas to keep both the little ones and our herd happy and safe.

We do our best to make our farm as accessible as possible. Because we are a rural, working farm, some of the ground is naturally a bit uneven. Please feel free to message us with any specific accessibility needs before you book, and we will do everything we can to accommodate you!

We are currently upgrading our internet connection to Starlink! This ensures we have super-fast, reliable high-speed internet right across our fields, helping us run our bookings and farm operations smoothly.
